The Flint Community School Garden Pop Ups were an exciting and welcome community collaboration.  Throughout June, the Flint Registry visited a total of six schools to engage with and provide programming and outreach materials to around 700 children and families.

In partnership with the Crim Fitness Foundation and Food Corps this project built and enhanced important community partnerships. Juee and Alyssa, interns from the Michigan State University-Hurley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative (PPHI), were amazing with the kids.

The Violence Prevention Network (VPN) meeting was hosted at MSU. The Flint Registry Outreach Team welcomed all community members and informed them of MSU-Hurley Children’s Hospital PPHI and Flint Registry. Community members were able to learn more, ask questions, and take materials with them.

On June 24th, the Flint Registry participated in Mott Fest, a family-oriented event in Mott Park. The park is now included into the larger planned State Park developing in Flint.  Over 1100 people attended, many visiting the Flint Registry table, and a good time was had by all!  It was a team effort across the city. Special thanks to Kiaya, Greg, and Aaron for helping out with a long, hot day!

Just across town, the Unity March was held on the east side of Flint at the same time as Mott Fest. The Flint Registry team was fortunate to be at both events and engage with the City of Flint in multiple ways. The community came together to unite against gun violence. The Flint Registry continued as a supportive partner and sponsor.  The Flint Registry had a resource table providing marketing material, swag, and offering enrollment opportunities.

At the end of June, the Flint Registry joined St. Mary’s Women’s Group, which is held every fourth Wednesday at St. Mary’s dining hall. MSU and other community partners attend the group. While there, the MSU staff established deeper bonds with residents who reside in the 48506, inform them of PPHI and Flint Registry programs and help connect them to resources and services to strengthen their family.
