From celebrating alongside the Flint community to sharing the story of the Flint Registry, it was a busy week for our team.
The Registry recently took part in two events that offered different ways to connect with the community: Scholars on Tap, featuring Dr. Nicole Jones, on September 14 and Flint Pride on September 19.

Scholars on Tap, a local series hosted by QuadPod — Kettering University, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Mott Community College, and the University of Michigan-Flint — returned on Monday, September 14 and welcomed Associate Professor at MSU and Flint Registry Principal Investigator Dr. Nicole Jones as the featured speaker, discussing the Flint Registry’s work as part of the community public health response to the Flint water crisis. The talk explored the Registry’s work since the water crisis and what has been learned through years of partnership with the Flint community.

Dr. Jones also discussed how Flint’s experience has contributed to conversations about public health and environmental policy in Michigan and across the country, including efforts to strengthen protections for communities facing environmental hazards. The event provided an opportunity for community members to learn more about the Registry’s work and reflect on the roles of research, community partnership and policy in supporting recovery and helping prevent future public health crises.
On Saturday, September 19, members of the Flint Registry team joined community members and organizations at the Flint Pride event in downtown Flint. The annual celebration, hosted by Wellness Services Inc., brought together the community for an afternoon of music, performances, food, and health service vendors. Despite the rain, the weather didn’t stop the festivities or the opportunity to connect with the Flint community.

From thoughtful conversations about Flint’s public health history to celebrating the people and community that make Flint unique, both events offered meaningful opportunities for connection. The Flint Registry is proud to continue showing up, sharing our work and building relationships with community members throughout the year.
