National Kidney Month Spotlights Kidney Health and Awareness

By March 31, 2026Article

The Flint Registry recently partnered with the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan to raise awareness of kidney health and resources. Working to connect and support enrollees and the community at large, the Flint Registry collaborated on a kidney health webinar and shared important information throughout March on social channels.

National Kidney Month shines a spotlight on chronic kidney disease (CKD), a long-term condition where kidneys are damaged and cannot effectively filter blood, leading to waste buildup and potential health issues like heart disease. CKD affects millions of people across the country, often without obvious symptoms in its early stages. Factors like high blood pressure and diabetes play a major role, putting roughly 1 in 3 adults at risk for developing kidney disease.

Throughout the month, awareness efforts have focused on a simple but powerful message: small everyday choices can have a big impact. Staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, being physically active, and managing chronic conditions are all steps that support kidney health over time. Just as important is early detection, which can help prevent or delay more serious complications.

National Kidney Month also highlights the value of accessible resources and community support. Across Michigan and beyond, organizations like the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan connect people with education, screenings, and support services that make it easier to take action. Every step forward helps build a healthier future for all.
