FLINT, Mich. — Jenifer Lewis, who plays Ruby Johnson on ABC’s hit show “Black-ish,” is in Flint as part of the Ballenger Eminent Persons Lecture Series of Mott Community College.

Lewis, an award-winning actress, activist, comedienne, and singer, will speak about her new memoir “The Mother of Black Hollywood” at the Whiting Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m.

Before making her appearance at the Whiting, Lewis took some time on Thursday to talk with the MSU-Hurley Pediatric Public Health Initiative’s (PPHI) Youth Advisory Group about the Flint water crisis, their goals in life and shared her life experience. Working hand-in-hand with Flint kids, the Youth Advisory Group informs the work of the PPHI, including the Flint Registry.

Lewis credits include roles on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Strong Medicine” and the voice of Mama Odie in the animated film “The Princess and the Frog.”
